MASS PLASMA SYNTHESIS
Inspired by Radulescu’s Sound Plasma, I have been developing a novel method for sound creation that combines elements of additive and FM synthesis, adding and cross multiplying (tens of) thousands of near-just-intoned sine waves, often at sub audible frequencies or amplitudes, to create boiling masses of spectral sound. The initial inspiration for this technique is in debt to both Radulescu and Karlheinz Stockhausen’s writing, but the resulting sounds are uniquely my own. I am currently working on a series of “Studies in Mass Plasma Synthesis” that can be heard on bandcamp here and here, and the technique has also been incorporated into my LP and CD releases on Mode and Black Truffle, and on the CD releases of other artists like Abigail Toll (Shelter Press).
HORATIU RADULESCU ARCHIVES
I am the official archivist and assistant editor for the Horatiu Radulescu Archives and the associated publishing company, Lucero Print. I have performed Radulescu’s works at festivals and concert series on four continents, and in 2022 released Plasmatic Music vol. 1 on Mode Records (one track of which is a posthumous duo with archival recordings of Radulescu himself playing organ and synthesiser).
HARMONIC SPACE ORCHESTRA
The Harmonic Space Orchestra is a Berlin-based experimental research and performance collective with rational intonation at the core of its practice. I have been a member since the group’s founding in 2019, and alongside clarinet-duties I take care of documenting and archiving the groups activities. Since 2023 I have organised the series “Harmonic Space: Prime Time,” which showcases the electro-acoustic and collectively-composed sides of the HSO’s work.
